Filmul „Joker” conduce lista nominalizarilor pentru premiile BAFTA 2020 cu 11 mentiuni. Trofeele vor fi oferite de Academia Britanica de Film pentru cele mai apreciate productii britanice si straine din ultimul an.
La 11 ani dupa ce Heath Ledger a castigat un trofeu BAFTA si un Oscar pentru rolul Jokerului din filmul „Dark Knight”, Joaquin Phoenix este favorit in cursa pentru Oscar si BAFTA pentru acelasi personaj.

Zilele trecute, actorul a castigat trofeul pentru „Cel mai bun actor intr-un rol principal” la Globurile de Aur 2020. La aceeasi ceremonie, Globul de aur pentru cel mai bun film a fost inmanat regizorului filmului „1917”, britanicul Sam Mendes. Posibila victorie a Jokerului la premiile BAFTA ar putea influenta alegerile votantilor pentru Oscar 2020.
In cursa pentru BAFTA 2020, Jokerul este urmat de „The Irishman” al lui Martin Scorsese si „Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” al lui Quentin Tarantino cu cate 10 nominalizari fiecare, „1917” in regia lui Sam Mendes cu 9 nominalizari si „Jojo Rabbit” cu 6 nominalizari.
Margot Robbie a primit doua nominalizari in aceeasi categorie – „Cea mai buna actrita intr-un rol secundar” pentru rolurile din „Bombshell” si „Once Upon a Time in Hollywood„.
Nominalizarile au fost primite cu reactii mixte de public din cauza lipsei diversitatii. Toti cei 18 actori intrati in cursa pentru un premiu sunt de culoare alba. In cursa pentru cel mai bun regizor este al saptelea an consecutiv in care votantii BAFTA ignora femeile-regizor.
Amanda Berry, CEO-ul Academiei Britanice de Film, a declarat ca este foarte dezamagita de lipsa diversitatii din lista din acest an si ar fi asteptat macar o femeie-regizor sa fie luata in calcul. Preferata criticilor era Greta Gerwig pentru „Little Women”.
Majoritatea categoriilor pentru premii sunt votate de cei 6.500 de membri BAFTA, profesionisti si oameni creativi din industria cinematografica din toata lumea.
